| ~ Ingredients: ~ 5 1/2 teacups of flour ~ 2 tbsp of dry yeast ~ 1 tbsp of sugar ~ 4 tbsp of olive oil ~ 2 tsp of salt ~ 2 teacups of warm water ~ 2 big onions finely chopped ~ 2 tbsp finely chopped basil or parsley ~ 2 tsp of oregano |

| ~ Pour the olive oil in a sauce pan to heat up. ~ Sauté the chopped onions until they are soft and translucent. ~ Add the chopped basil or parsley and oregano and stir to mix. ~ Remove from the fire and set aside to cool down a bit. ~ Place the flour, dry yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl and mix well. ~ Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture, pour in the warm water and the sautéed onion mixture including the olive oil. ~ Knead by hands until the dough becomes soft and uniformed. ~ Cover the bowl with the dough with a kitchen towel for about 1-1 1/2 hours to rise. ~ After the rising time has passed, knead the dough again and shape it into a round loaf. ~ Place the dough into a baking pan and lightly oil the surface. ~ Bake in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius (see conversions) for about 1 hour or until golden brown. ~ Remove from the oven, let it cool down a bit and serve. ~ Be sure that the results of the flavours of kremithopsomou (Greek Onion Bread) will amaze whoever is going to taste it. ~ Kremithopsomo (Greek Onion Bread) can be incorporated into the modern Greek Cuisine as a Hot Appetizer and it is warm it can be accompanied by some Greek Dips. ~ Good luck and enjoy. |
