| ~ Already known from the ancient cultures the use herbs for pharmaceuticals-therapeutic aims was very widespread. ~ Proofs are the written reports of Sumerians that is dated in 2200 Before Christ. ~ Followed are the reports from Hippocrates and Dioskouridi of which their work was used as the bases for later researches. Let us remember some of the widespread herbs and their action: |
| ~ Anise (Γλυκανισος): ~ Known from the distilling industry for making ouzo and raki (ουζο-τσιπουρο). ~ Recommendable for indigestion and stomach pains. ~ Rosemary (Δενδρολιβανο): ~ It is used a lot in cooking but its tonic and antiseptic attributes were known from ancient Greece. ~ It also improves the haemorrhaging of the brain since it constitutes in stimulating the circulation of blood and helps in the growth and health of the hair. ~ Dittany (Δικταμος): ~ The “tea of” Crete. Known for its tonic and healing attributes. ~ Spearmint (Δυοσμος): ~ Known as seasoning in cooking. ~ Beneficial in dermal diseases and it has palliative action. ~ Thyme (Θυμαρι): ~ Also known for cooking, but apart from the perfume that opens the appetite constitutes as a general stimulant. ~ Marjoram (Ματζουρανα): ~ Natural tonic, beneficial in stress periods, insomnia, headaches and acts at the hypertension. ~ Mint (Μεντα): ~ We are advisable for stomach diseases, digestive dysfunctions and have tonic action. ~ Mountain Tea (Τσαι βουνου): ~ Its therapeutic attributes were known from the antiquity. ~ It is recommended for colds, for coughs, it is thermal and rich in Flemish that is benefiting the heart. ~ Also it has antiseptic, peptic, detoxifying and peptic action. ~ Tilio (Τιλιο): ~ It is advisable for hypertension, hardening of the arteries and constitutes as a natural tranquiliser. ~ Chamomile (Χαμομηλι): ~ It has peptic, tranquilizing, tonic and palliative action. ~ It is also recommended for fighting obesity. ~ Garlic (Σκορδος): ~ Used in gastronomy. Antibiotic stops infection. "Garlic: a natural antibiotic" ~ Dill and Dill oil (Ανηθος): ~ Known as seasoning in cooking. ~ Used to soothe the stomach after meals. ~ Sage (Φασκομηλο): ~ Improves cognitive function in mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. |
